Terms of Service for Audioexperiment.com

Last updated 22 August 2026.

This site is run by one person. These terms are written to be read, not to be survived — they say what you get, what it costs, what happens if you want your money back, and what this site does not promise. If something here is unclear, ask before you pay.

1. Who you are dealing with

Audioexperiment.com is operated by Verkkomuikku, a Finnish sole trader.

  • Business name: Verkkomuikku (toiminimi)
  • Business ID (Y-tunnus): 1903089-1
  • VAT number: FI19030891
  • Owner: Teemu Muikku
  • Address: Jouhenniementie 2, 58200 Kerimäki, Finland
  • Email: contact.audioexperiment@gmail.com

Using the site means you accept these terms. Buying Pro means you accept them as the contract between us.

2. What the site offers

Audioexperiment.com is a collection of loudspeaker and acoustics tools: calculators, visualisations and listening tests you run in your browser. It is a hobby project built out of curiosity, and it is offered to anyone who finds it useful.

Everything on this site that makes sound is free, and stays free. You do not need an account to use the tools or the listening tests.

An optional account (email login) lets you save your work. An optional paid Pro membership covers the parts you take away with you.

3. What Pro includes

Pro covers exporting impulse responses, and saving your own sound sources and rooms to your library. The tools themselves are not behind Pro — what Pro buys is keeping and taking out your own work.

The exact contents of Pro can change as the site develops. If a feature that Pro currently includes is removed, that does not shorten a membership you have already paid for — see section 13.

4. Price, currency and tax

Pro costs 29 EUR per year. All prices on this site are in euros (EUR) and include Finnish VAT at 25.5 %.

Your location can affect which tax applies. The final amount you pay, and the tax included in it, are shown by the payment provider before you confirm. That figure is the one that counts.

There are no promotions, discounts, trials or introductory prices on this site. One price, one duration.

5. Payment

Payments are handled by Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd. The accepted payment methods are Visa, Mastercard and American Express, as offered by Stripe at the time of purchase.

This site never sees or stores your card details. They go directly to Stripe, which is a PCI DSS compliant payment provider. This site is served over HTTPS. What this site keeps is the fact that a payment succeeded, which account it belongs to, and when the membership ends.

Stripe sends you a receipt by email. Keep it — if anything goes wrong, that receipt is the fastest way to sort it out.

6. Your account

An account is created with an email address and a login link sent to it. There is no password. This means whoever can read your mailbox can get into your account, so use an address only you control.

An account and a Pro membership are for one person. Do not share login links. You can export your data and delete your account yourself at any time, from your account page — you do not need to ask.

7. Delivery

Pro is delivered electronically and immediately. Access is granted automatically when Stripe confirms the payment, which normally takes seconds and occasionally a minute or two.

If Pro has not appeared on your account within ten minutes of paying, something has gone wrong on this end and it will not fix itself. Forward the Stripe receipt to contact.audioexperiment@gmail.com and it will be added by hand. Your payment is not lost either way — Stripe has it.

8. Duration and renewal

Pro lasts one year from the day it is paid.

It does not renew automatically. There is no subscription running in the background, nothing is charged again, and you do not need to cancel anything. When the year ends, the account simply returns to the free level and your saved work stays where it is, within the free limits.

If you renew before the year is up, the new year starts when the old one ends. You do not lose the remainder.

9. Right of withdrawal and refunds

If you live in the EU, consumer law gives you 14 days to withdraw from a purchase of a digital service. That right is lost if you have expressly asked for the service to start immediately and acknowledged, before it started, that you lose the right by doing so. Where you have not given that acknowledgement, the 14 days apply normally.

To withdraw, email contact.audioexperiment@gmail.com within 14 days of the purchase. Give enough detail to identify the payment. You do not have to give a reason. If the right applies, the payment is refunded to the original payment method within 14 days of the notice arriving.

If you live outside the EU, the EU right of withdrawal does not apply to you. These terms apply, together with any mandatory consumer protection in your own country of residence. Refund requests outside the statutory right are handled case by case — ask, and expect a straight answer rather than a policy quotation.

Refunding a payment ends the Pro membership it paid for.

10. Acceptable use

Use the site. Break it and you will be shown the door. Specifically, do not:

  • scrape, bulk-download or resell the site's content or data
  • work around the paid features instead of paying for them
  • share one account or its login links with several people
  • run automated load against the site, or anything that degrades it for others
  • upload measurement data you do not have the right to use

An account used this way can be suspended. If a Pro membership is suspended for this reason, the unused part is refunded — the point is to stop the behaviour, not to keep the money.

11. Ownership

The site, its code, texts, graphics and the tools themselves belong to Verkkomuikku. Pro gives you the right to use them, not to own or redistribute them.

What you upload stays yours. Your own measurements, rooms and sound sources remain your property and your responsibility. They are stored so that the site can show them back to you. They are not sold, published or used to train anything.

Results you produce with the tools — exported impulse responses, plots, numbers — are yours to use as you like, including commercially. No attribution required, though it is always welcome.

12. Sound, hearing and equipment — read this one

This site plays audio on purpose. Some of it is not music: sine tones, noise, impulses, and signals designed to be heard at levels where a problem becomes audible.

Start every test at a low volume and raise it slowly. Test signals do not behave like music. A tone at the same nominal level as a track can be very much louder to your ears, and a browser, an interface or an amplifier can add gain you did not ask for.

  • Loud sound damages hearing, and the damage does not heal. You are responsible for the volume you choose.
  • Low frequency content at high level can damage loudspeakers, particularly the woofer excursion test, which exists precisely to push a driver until something audible happens.
  • Do not use these tests with headphones on someone who cannot control the volume themselves, and keep them away from children.

The tools are not measurement instruments. They are illustrations and listening aids. The numbers they produce depend on your browser, your hardware and your room, none of which this site can see. Do not use them as the only basis for a purchase, a design decision or a claim about someone else's product.

You use the tools at your own risk.

13. Availability, changes and what happens if the site ends

This is a one-person hobby project, not a service with an uptime guarantee. The site can be unavailable, tools can change, and features can be added or removed without notice.

Because Pro is sold as a year, it deserves a straight answer about the end:

  • If the site is discontinued while your Pro year is running, the unused part of what you paid is refunded, and you will be told in advance so you can export your data first.
  • If Pro stops being sold but the site continues, existing memberships run to the end of their year as normal.
  • Your data is exportable at any time, without asking, from your account page. Do not wait for an announcement to take a copy.

14. Liability

The site is provided as it is. To the extent permitted by law, Verkkomuikku is not liable for indirect or consequential loss — lost work, lost time, lost profit, damaged equipment or damaged hearing arising from your use of the site.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid for Pro during the twelve months before the event.

Nothing here limits liability for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for personal injury where the law does not permit exclusion, or any mandatory consumer rights you have. If a court finds one part of this section unenforceable, the rest still stands.

15. Changes to these terms

These terms can change. The date at the top always shows the version in force. A purchase is governed by the terms that were in force when it was made — a later change does not reach backwards into a membership you have already paid for.

16. Privacy

What data the site collects, why, how long it is kept and how to get rid of it is described in the privacy policy. It is written in the same plain terms as this page.

17. Governing law and disputes

Finnish law applies to these terms and to any contract made under them. If you are a consumer, that choice does not take away the protection given to you by the mandatory consumer law of your own country of residence.

If something goes wrong, email first. Most things are a misunderstanding or a bug, and both are faster to fix than to argue about.

If that does not settle it, a consumer in Finland may take the matter to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board after contacting Consumer Advisory Services. A consumer elsewhere in the EU may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform. Disputes that are not consumer disputes are heard by the District Court of South Savo, Finland, in the first instance.
